ABOUT
The Atom Interferometric Observatory and Network (AION) project is a multidisciplinary initiative that uses ultra-cold atom and laser technologies for the detection of ultra-light dark matter and gravitational waves.
PEOPLE & COLLABORATION
AION is a collaboration of scientists and engineers from 7 institutes across the UK. It is partnered with the MAGIS-100 experiment at Fermilab in the US and the National Quantum Technology Hub in Sensors and Timing in the UK.
NEWS
The AION collaboration held its first in-person meeting between the 8th and 10th of November at the University of Oxford.
Its official, AION now has a logo! Following a competition during the summer of 2021, the AION consortium presented ideas for the AION logo.

This image shows the first strontium magneto-optical trap achieved for AION. This brings together the laser and laser stabilisation systems that will be used within ultra-cold strontium apparatus at the University of Birmingham - one of several such laboratories being set-up across the consortium.
